In current NetWorker versions (9.1 and later), the default Target Sessions setting for a CloudBoost device is 10. This value helps balance load when multiple backup streams are directed to the CloudBoost appliance without imposing a hard cap (that’s what the Max Sessions setting is for).

When Client Direct is enabled on a client resource, the NetWorker client pushes its deduplicated data stream straight to the AFTD (or DD Boost) device - bypassing the NetWorker storage node entirely - while still sending all control and metadata updates (client file index entries, media database operations, etc.) back to the NetWorker server so it can track and catalog the backup.
