HPE GreenLake Data Protection is a cloud service that provides backup and recovery solutions for hybrid cloud environments. It enables customers to protect their data from edge to cloud, with rapid recovery on premises or low-cost archiving in the cloud.  It also offers ransomware protection, data mobility, and data analytics capabilities 1 .

Two of the components that are part of HPE GreenLake Data Protection are:

Disaster recovery: HPE GreenLake Data Protection offers disaster recovery as a service (DRaaS) based on Zerto, a leading platform for cloud data management and protection 2 . DRaaS enables customers to replicate and recover their data and applications across different sites, regions, or clouds in minutes, with minimal data loss and downtime.  DRaaS also provides orchestration, automation, and testing tools to simplify and streamline the disaster recovery process 2 .

Azure blob backup: HPE GreenLake Data Protection supports Azure blob backup, which allows customers to backup their data to Azure Blob Storage, a scalable and cost-effective cloud storage service 3 . HPE InfoSight is a cloud-based platform that uses AI and machine learning to provide predictive analytics, proactive recommendations, and automated actions for HPE infrastructure. It collects and analyzes data from more than 100,000 systems worldwide and uses that intelligence to make every system smarter and more self-sufficient. HPE InfoSight offers the following features:

HPE InfoSight supports HPE Alletra 6000 and 9000 all-flash arrays, which deliver consistent performance, availability, and efficiency for mission-critical and business-critical workloads. Additionally, customers with Microsoft 365 workloads are a primary target for this solution. Since Microsoft provides service availability but not a comprehensive long-term data backup for Exchange Online, SharePoint, and OneDrive, HPE GreenLake for Data Protection fills this critical gap by providing a secure, off-site, and long-term retention repository for SaaS data. DCNM: Data Center Network Manager (DCNM) is a network management platform for all NX-OS-enabled deployments, spanning new fabric architectures, and storage networking deployments of the HPE C-Series switches. It can provide centralized control, automation, and visibility for the data center network, and support various features, such as fabric discovery, provisioning, monitoring, troubleshooting, and backup and restore .

Fabric Vision: Fabric Vision is a technology that provides insight across the storage network through diagnostic, monitoring, and management technology of the HPE B-Series switches. On-premises mission critical Oracle database backed by an Alletra 6050 : This use case involves running an Oracle database on a physical server that uses an HPE Alletra 6050 system as the block storage. It also includes the service level, the billing unit, the minimum and maximum capacity, and the buffer size. The Start Bill of Materials helps HPE to calculate the monthly fee and the buffer charge for the customer.

Completed Order Checklist: This is a document that contains the essential information and documents that are needed to process the HPE GreenLake order. It includes the customer name, address, contact details, legal entity, billing frequency, payment method, contract term, start date, end date, and signature. It also includes the attachments such as the Start Bill of Materials, the End Bill of Materials, the Statement of Work, the Credit Check Form, and the Customer Acceptance Form.

The other items are not mandatory for the initial proposal, but they may be required later in the order process:

End Bill of Materials: This is a document that lists the final hardware and software components, quantities, and prices that are delivered and installed for the HPE GreenLake solution. It may differ from the Start Bill of Materials due to changes in the customer requirements, availability, or pricing. The End Bill of Materials helps HPE to reconcile the actual usage and billing with the customer.

Signed Statement of Work: This is a document that defines the scope, deliverables, responsibilities, and terms and conditions of the HPE GreenLake service. The Customer Intent Document (CID) is a document that captures the customer’s requirements and expectations for their HPE solution.  A managed private cloud solution is one where the customer has a dedicated cloud environment that is managed by a third-party provider. The customer can benefit from the scalability, flexibility, and security of the cloud, without having to deal with the infrastructure management and maintenance. However, the customer may also have specific requirements for ownership and tax purposes, such as retaining the title of the assets or depreciating them over time. In this case, a traditional purchase or a custom HPE GreenLake solution may not be suitable, as they would either require the customer to pay upfront for the infrastructure or transfer the ownership to HPE. HPE GreenLake for VDI is also not a good option, as it is a specific solution for virtual desktops, not a general-purpose cloud platform.

The best option for the customer is to use HPE Financial Services lease with GreenLake management services. This option allows the customer to lease the infrastructure from HPE Financial Services, while HPE GreenLake provides the management and pay-per-use billing for the cloud services. The customer can retain the ownership of the assets at the end of the lease term, or renew the lease with updated technology.
